Senior Engineering Manager

As a Senior Engineering Manager for the Suppliers and Accounting team at Toast, you will be responsible for delivering solutions that support business goals and releasing features that add value to our internal teams and customers. You will lead a high-performing team of engineers and be responsible for validating technical decisions and guiding the team in building scalable technology. Engaging with business stakeholders to gather feedback through demos is key to our agile delivery framework. You will also oversee the testing of solutions and address any production issues. This role offers a wide scope of ownership and significant opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities:

• Drive overall technical architecture, design, build, and launch features/improvements on our platform.
• Deliver high-impact complex projects that may span multiple teams.
• Drive the delivery of business outcomes across multiple teams.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management and UX.
• Lead collaborative discovery and execution ceremonies.
• Ensure end-to-end software delivery, including team ownership of monitoring and issue resolution.
• Manage the daily activities of Engineers.
• Coach individuals in professional and technical development.
• Hire and mentor Team Leads and Senior Technical Staff members.

Requirements:

• 12+ years of experience managing agile software engineering teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Full-stack expertise with Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, React JS, Node JS, Springboot, Spring, Kafka, Redis, etc.
• In-depth knowledge of application design, testing, and microservices.
• Extensive experience building distributed applications.
• Experience managing large engineering teams.
• Proven ability to attract, hire, retain, and lead engineering talent.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels.
• Bias towards action.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, system testing, and test automation. Experience in infrastructure, application monitoring, and service performance is a plus.

Tech Stack:

• Our products run on a stack that ranges from guest and restaurant-facing Android tablets to backend services in Java to internal, guest-facing, and restaurant-facing web apps.
• Our backend services follow a microservice architecture written using Java and Kotlin on DropWizard; we use AWS extensively, ranging from S3 to RDS to DynamoDB to Lambda.
• We have our platform for dealing with service elevations and robust load balancing.
• We store data in PostgreSQL databases or DynamoDB tables, depending on use case, and utilize Apache Spark for large-scale data workloads, including query and batch processing.
• The web frontend is built using React and ES6 Our restaurant point of sale application is an Android application written in Java and Kotlin. Apache Pulsar and Camel are used extensively in our integration transaction workflow processing.
