Data Engineer

Our Enterprise Data & Analytics (EDA) team at Zendesk is looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join our growing, globally distributed, remote-first team. We embrace Agile methodologies and utilize the latest engineering best practices. You will contribute to the development of curated data products, adhering to standard architectural and data modeling practices, with a focus on Data Warehouse Solutions using technologies like dbt, Airflow, and Terraform.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with team members and business partners to gather business requirements, define analytics outcomes, and design data models.
• Employ best engineering practices, including version control, CI/CD, code reviews, and pair programming.
• Design, build, and maintain ELT pipelines within the Enterprise Data Warehouse to ensure reliable business reporting.
• Design and build ELT-based data models using SQL and dbt.
• Develop analytics solutions providing insights into customer 360, finance, product, sales, and other critical business domains.
• Identify and implement internal process improvements, including automation and optimization of data delivery.
• Work with data and analytics experts to enhance our data systems.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in data/analytics engineering, building and maintaining data pipelines and ETL processes in big data environments.
• Basic knowledge of modern and classic Data Modeling approaches (e.g., Kimball, Inmon).
• Experience with programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Scala (with a primary focus on Python).
• SQL proficiency and experience with Cloud columnar databases (e.g., Snowflake), along with familiarity with various database systems.
• Familiarity with processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer business questions and identify areas for improvement.
• Strong communication skills and adaptability to changing requirements and technology stacks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience in one or more business domains.
• 1+ completed projects using dbt.
• Proficiency in SQL and/or Python.
• Experience using Airflow as a data orchestration tool.

Location: This position is open to candidates physically located and planning to work from Karnataka or Maharashtra, India.

Hybrid Work: This role is designed for a hybrid experience, requiring attendance at our local office part of the week, with specific in-office schedules determined by the hiring manager. The goal is to foster connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration while still offering flexibility.
